Russia keen to boost trade ties with Qatar

Source: The Peninsula

Doha: Russia is keen to promote trade ties with Qatar and encourage joint ventures between the private sectors in the two countries.

A trade mission from Russia is here and yesterday held meetings with officials of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI).

The two sides discussed ways to promote trade between their two countries and agreed in principle to set up a joint Qatar-Russian business committee with an objective to have a formal platform to augment mutual trade and foster closer ties between the private sectors.

The visitors led by E Primokov are from the Russian Chamber of Trade and Industry. The QCCI was represented at the meet by Abdulaziz Al Emadi, vice-chairman, and Mohamed Tawar Al Kuwari, head of the services committee at the QCCI.

Trade volume between Qatar and Russia is low presently and the latter is too keen to set up joint ventures here. “There are a number of items we can export to Doha such as pipes used in the oil and gas industry,” Primokov said. A number of projects are already being negotiated with the Qatari government.
